With all of the stresses and pressures in 21st century living one really effective way you can help yourself move towards your goals is a daily planner. By breaking down you ultimate large goals into smaller achievable action based goals your big long term goals will be far less overwhelming. Having a plan that involves doing little things every day, makes it a heck of a lot easier to achieve results.
First of all when setting goals it is important that we set an achievable goal for ourselves. Once you’ve spent some time on thinking about your goal. It’s now about breaking down your priorities and what needs to be done each day in order to ultimately achieve that big goal in the end.
You must ask your self how badly do you want this? in order to achieve something we never have before chances are we are going to need to change a few things. This is something that we see with our clients all the time. You need to be willing to make changes and form new habits in order to achieve. The key here is to be honest with yourself guys, take the time to think about and answer this question honestly. What you’re left with will be a greater understanding of whether your goal is too big depending on whether you’re willing or not willing to change what is required. A really good quote that might help you with this is “If you do what you have always done, you will get what you have always got” – Unknown.
To start with, list all of your daily habits as they are at the moment:
- How many times do you go to the gym and for how long?
- How many meals do you eat per day and what are they?
- How much water are you drinking?
- How much sleep do you get
- How much time spent on social media/TV
Remember the question we were talking about earlier. What are you willing to change? Every day we subconsciously distract ourselves. Skipping breakfast or not taking food to work. Or potential training time being spent watching a TV show that you just ‘have to watch’? Each of us has our own different things. If you’re able to recognise what bad habits are holding you back then you’re already getting it!
replacing those habits/distractions with good habits in alignment with your goal. For example am I able to watch that next episode tomorrow and go to the gym now? If you’re like most people and have the constant thoughts inside your head like, ‘I’ll do it tomorrow’, ‘Your too tired today’, ‘It’s probably easier to do it later’. To flip this on it’s head and create positive actions isn’t easy. It’s like waxing, the worst part is the anticipation/mind f@#king before the first strip is ripped once you’ve done it a few times it becomes easy!
Once you start making these changes regularly, they’ll become a habits. Once your habits are correspond with your dreams, nothing can stop you.
Once you know every step in your day is moving closer towards your ultimate goal you’ll feel more confident and productive all the time. Everyone loves to see progress and taking the time to plan your days and actions will help you to see every win no matter how big or small and automatically feel on track.
