That’s a great question I heard this week and it got me thinking.
It applies to many areas of life...Especially fitness.
Let’s take meal prep for example.
What would meal prepping look like if it were easy?
For some, that’s just taking 10 minutes to drop some food into a slow cooker, cook it overnight, then wake up to a couple of days worth of food with barely any effort.
You could prep meals from scratch in less time than it takes to go pick up takeout.
When it comes to exercise, what’s “easy” may be picking an activity you love where you lose track of time doing it.
That could be gym classes, swimming, dancing, tennis...the list is endless.
Whatever it is that YOU love.
Because there’s no rule that says there’s only one proper way to exercise.
It sounds silly to even have to say this, but you have permission to make fitness fun.
Of course, getting and staying in great shape isn’t always “easy.”
Still, it doesn’t have to be that hard either.
No one gets extra “brownie points” for complicating the process or making it miserable.
Too many other programs demand people drop everything they have going on in their life just to get fit.
It’s not practical.
We believe our clients succeed because we have found an approach that works easily WITH their busy lifestyle.
So, again, consider, “What would this look like if this were easy?”

Growing up Arnold Schwarzenegger was my idol and to this day he still inspires me.
Coach Corey and I got to briefly meet the great man at an event a couple of years back...
Needless to say, it was UNREAL!
He gave a speech during the event and Arnold talked about the '6 Rules of Success' and two of those rules are:
1️⃣Don't be afraid to fail and
2️⃣Work your butt off.
Remember if your chasing a goal whether it be dropping that body fat, building some muscle or even running a marathon.
You must adhere to these two rules.
Don't quit if you stumble, just get back up and keep working.
And don't just 'go through the 'motions' either.
Arnold doesn't say just work...he says 'work your butt off!'.
Incredible results require incredible work and simply ticking the box of attending the gym isn't going to cut it.
You need to work hard with your eye on the prize.
So get out and set the standard every single day 👊

Here’s a “not-so-hardcore” way to lose weight without counting calories. (And side note, is a common habit of all our past challenge winners).
First of all, tracking every calorie you eat CAN be an effective way to change your habits and lose weight.
The thing is…
It can feel daunting.
So if in-depth meal tracking is a little too much commitment, try this instead…
For one week, simply write down every food you eat in a food journal.
You don’t need to measure exact portions or count calories.
Just note what you ate and drank for each meal with a general note of how much.
For instance, “Dinner: 3 slices of pizza with 2 bits of garlic bread.”
You might be shocked to discover…
Over time, you’ll naturally, automatically, almost effortlessly begin to make better food choices.
Why?
Awareness.
Sure, you may think you already know what you’re eating. And of course, on some level you do.
However, when you literally write down what you ate for each meal, you’ll become even more mindful and aware of your habits.
And this awareness is the first step to change.
For some people, this is ALL they need to make healthier food choices.
For others, they may need a different approach.
It just goes to show there is multiple ways to get results.
Either way, this is still a useful “experiment” to try for a week or two.

The problem you 'THINK' you have is almost never the 'REAL' problem.

The problem with role models...

Imagine you're told to sit in a room and fill out a questionnaire.
You're left alone for a few minutes. Then, you notice smoke filling the room.
Would you stay or leave?
Most people would obviously leave.
Now suppose there are others in the room with you.

Information is overrated.
If someone Google’s “weight loss,” they’ll get over 2 BILLION results.
Nobody in the world has time to go through all of that.

👎Screw the scale!
I understand the desire to measure fitness progress by a number on a scale.
It’s easy. It’s simple. It’s trackable.
So I’m in favour of using a scale, but not as the MAIN way a person measures progress. Because if someone loses 10kgs... that could be 10kgs of fat OR 10kgs of muscle and water.
I’ve seen some of my clients completely transform their bodies even though the number on the scale didn’t change that much (just like the photo here of Brain who dropped just over 5kg)
Here’s the bigger problem with the scale though…
It can take a person’s focus off of what matters most.
For instance, with parents I work with, many of them would say what’s more important than a number on a scale is the great example they're setting for their kids.
I’ve noticed those that have ‘non-scale goals’ tend to be far more motivated and successful.
In some cases, if a person is hyper-obsessed with the scale, and their daily weigh-in dictates their mood, I’d even tell them to say “screw the scale” and forget about it entirely in the short-term.
They can use a scale later when they have a healthier relationship to it.
So forgetting about the scale for a second, how else will living a fit lifestyle make your life even more awesome?
Will you be an inspiration to those around you?
Will you feel more confident because you’re following through on your commitments?
Will you have more energy to play with your kids?
To me, it just feels good to challenge myself and live a healthy lifestyle regardless of what a scale says.

Instead of focusing on results, focus on daily “habit victories.”
Ask yourself…
Did I exercise today?
Did I stay within my caloric allowance?
Did I drink water?
Did I stick to my step count?
Did I savor each bite of food instead of shovelling it mindlessly?
By focusing on your habit victories, next thing you know…
The belt is changing notches (in the good way)…
you're not getting drained during workouts…
and you feel great in day to day activities.
When you focus on DAILY WINS, you have something to be proud of each day.
This ignites motivation to keep going.
Then - bam - results come.
So look, I can’t promise you overnight results...No one can.
It’s probably going to take a few months of working together before old cravings disappear and you can buy a new wardrobe.
But when you enjoy the process, every day can feel like a victory.
Which is the key to *permanent* results.
Because what’s the point in getting in great shape... only to lose it all later?

Why You're NOT Losing Weight ❌
1. You're Eating to Many Calories 🍩
The Fix: Track your food intake via a nutrition journal or app like MyFitnessPal and have your Coach/Trainer check through it regularly.
Remember you must be in a calorie deficit in order to lose weight.
2. You Don't Move Enough Throughout the Day 🏃♀️
The Fix: Schedule in a daily walk (early mornings, lunch-time or evenings work best). Play some sport with your kids or friends (golf, tennis, footy etc).
3. You're Inconsistent ❌
The Fix: The best nutrition and training program don't work if you don't stick to it...get someone to hold you accountable, a Coach, friend or work colleague.
4. You're Gaining Muscle 💪
The Fix: Nothing, you're on the right track.
While scales are a method of measuring your weight they don't seperate muscle mass from fat mass.

After more than 10 years as a Coach there is a common theme I see every single new year, and I'm sure you have seen it too (or maybe even experienced it).

Brads transformation is a testament to his commitment to fully overhaul his life.
Here's some stats:
⬇️Dropped a huge 24kg
⬇️Down an incredible 13.5% Body-Fat
Coming into The Gorilla Pit- Newcastle with some big mobility restrictions Brad was unsure if he would be able to complete a single session let alone a challenge, but he was determined to make change.
Through the 12 weeks a man on a mission turned into an unstoppable force, gaining momentum in every workout.
Substitution exercises were becoming less and less as his mobility, range and strength increased.
Watching a guy who struggled to get up and down off the ground to completing his first set of burpees was amazing (I've never seen someone so happy to do a burpee) 🤣.
Every single week Brad submitted his nutrition diary asking for advice and where he could improve.
Always looking to learn and be better.
He also added in extra stretching and mobility work at home.
It is this all round effort that led to not only a massive physical change but an overall lifestyle transformation that Brad and his family are loving.
A well deserved champion and we're so proud of you mate.

🙏 Last Saturday our Pit Crew Coaches were put through a gruelling workout in the crowd favourite 'Train the Trainer'.
It's part of our annual Christmas Charity Bootcamp were we raise money and toys for the Ronald McDonald House Newcastle.
We raised a massive $3,550 🙏
All donations from #Newcastle and #Wollongong went towards buying gifts for the kids and families staying at the @rmhnewcastle this Christmas.
These gifts will help put a smile on kids and family going through a tough time this Chrissy ❤️🎄

The time lie! ⏰ ⌚️ ⏲️
How often do we hear, or tell ourselves I’d love to do that, but I don’t have the time.
I wish I could go to the gym… but I don’t have time
I’d eat healthier… if I had the time to prep
I would love to learn a language, play an instrument, study xyz…. But I can’t find the time.
I’m calling 💩. Not that long ago the entire world went into lockdown and most of us had nothing but time. Or at worst we had a few extra hours per day then we normally did, even if that was just commute time.
How many of us got in better shape, cooked better meals, completed a new course or learnt a language like we always say we want to??? NOT MANY!
This post is t to guilt you into feeling bad it’s to highlight the lie about time we hide behind. Stop comparing your success or your progress to everyone else.
Progress looks completely different for every individual.
Success for 1 person maybe saying yes to ice cream without guilt, for someone else it may be saying no to ice cream and breaking a binge and a 3rd success could look like someone fitting ice cream into their macro or calorie count for that day.
All different scenarios all can be great progress.

A nice tip to keep in mind when doing the food shopping. Fill your trolley mainly with single ingredient foods, foods that are what they are. Nothing added, nothing taken away. 🍉 🍇 🥒 🥦 🥩 🥚
Foods that if left out on the table will start to break down or deteriorate, not foods that if left out the ants will come take away.
If most of your meals are made from these single ingredient foods, (low calorie / high nutrient dense)that will give you a bit of room leftover for the other foods 🍫 🍟 🍔

A quick update on our adopted Silverback Gorilla 'Agahebuzo' 🦍
Silverback Agahebuzo is a well-respected member of Dushishoze’s group, which formed last year. He plays two key roles as a subordinate silverback—protector and babysitter—both of which have resulted in strong relationships with dominant silverback Dushishoze and the other members of the group.
The group dynamics haven’t changed since it formed, but this is likely to change soon. Two of the group’s infants, Kira and Inararibonye, will turn 3 this year, which means their moms could potentially transfer groups if they are lured away by a strong silverback. This is where Agahebuzo’s role as a subordinate silverback comes in. He will be responsible for protecting the group from outside silverbacks who might try and recruit a female into their group.
If either of the females does decide to leave, Agahebuzo, who is close to both Kira and Inararibonye and is often found playing with them, will likely become their closest group member – a protector during their still young years. We think he would be happy to take on this role, as playing with Kira and Inararibonye is one of his favourite activities!

Why You're Not Losing Weight ❌
1. You're Eating to Many Calories 🍩
The Fix: Track your food through a nutrition journal and have your Coach/Trainer check through it regularly.
2. You Don't Move Enough Throughout the Day 🏃♀️
The Fix: Schedule in a daily walk (early mornings, lunch-time or evenings work best). Play some sport with your kids or friends (golf, tennis, footy etc)
3. You're Inconsistent ❌
The Fix: The best nutrition and training program don't work if you don't stick to it...get someone to hold you accountable, a Coach, friend or work colleague.
4. You're Gaining Muscle 💪
The Fix: Nothing, you're on the right track.
While scales are a method of measuring your weight they don't seperate muscle mass from fat mass.

THE 'OTHER SIDE' OF TRAINING- Coach Nath
4 Years ago I had a snowboarding accident and fractured my back.
Luckily it was what's know as a 'stable fracture' so I didn't need surgery and the Dr's told me it would take 12-16weeks till I was able to get back into the gym.
During the recovery process it was the longest time I've had off the gym and training in about 14 years (and also the longest time I've laid in a bed).
I lost a good amount of my muscle mass and during the time was the lightest I'd been for a very, very long time.
But apart from the physical changes that I experienced since been away from the gym it's the mental side of training and fitness that I missed the most.
My energy was down,
I got tired really easy,
but my sleep is horrible,
I lost motivation when working,
and I wasn't my usual upbeat self.
What I'm trying to say is it's easy to get caught up in the 'physical' goals i.e. fat loss, muscle gain etc.
But what about all the other 'unsexy' benefits of training.
The better mood,
increased energy,
better sleep,
positive outlook on life,
that awesome feeling you get after a hard training session.
These are the things I missed most during my recovery and I just want to remind you all that training, nutrition and health is so much more then losing those kgs or hitting that PB.
So the next time you step on a set of scales and don't like what you see or have a slip up with your nutrition over a weekend. Don't beat yourself up and definitely don't throw it all away and quit.
Think about all the other awesome benefits that training gives you, then get back to work 😉

Last Saturday our Pit Crew Coaches were put through a gruelling workout in everybody's favourite 'Train the Trainer'.
It's part of our annual Christmas Charity Bootcamp were we raise money and toys for the Ronald McDonald House Newcastle.
We raised a massive $3,750...each year it keeps getting bigger and bigger 🙏
All donations from #Newcastle and #Wollongong will go towards buying toys for the kids staying at the Ronald McDonald House Newcastle this Christmas.
These gifts will help put a smile on kids and family going through a tough time this Chrissy ❤️🎄
A massive thank you to every single person that came out, donated, supported us and gave us a taste of our own medicine in train the trainer!

Each year we collect toys and raise money to buy gifts for kids that are going through a tough time 🎁
Christmas is a time for gratitude and giving back which is why we're doing it all again this year and we want to make this year another great toy drive.
This Saturday is our very popular 'Train the Trainer' day!
Basically it works like this...our members buy exercises from the list provided, give that purchased exercise to a Coach of their choice and this will build out a workout for each Coach.
The more exercises they buy the more us Coaches get punished/flogged 🤢
100% of the money raised goes to buying toys for the kids staying at the @rmhnewcastle this Christmas.
It's our small way of giving back to the community and we hope it brings a few smiles on Christmas day for those families that need it most 😊🦍

#1: Don't hit the snooze ⏰
Prolonged snoozing of your alarm essentially confuses your circadian rhythm.
Have your phone away from arms reach so you have to get up out of bed to turn the alarm off.

Drinking water first thing in the morning immediately helps rehydrate the body.
Add in some lemon or lime for even greater health benefits.

Get 5-10min of sunlight (no sunglasses) within an hour of waking.

Whether it's a training session, walking around the block or a few bodyweight exercises at home, getting your body moving first thing in the AM will release a heap of feel good hormones and help give you more energy throughout the day.

An update on our adopted Silverback Agahebuzo 🦍
"It’s been an intense year for silverback Agahebuzo. Early in 2021, when silverback Dushishoze split from the original Pablo’s group, Agahebuzo decided to join him in a new 8-member group.
For the first month or two after the split, Dushishoze’s group continued to move near the main Pablo group, and a few gorillas made calling vocalisations in an effort to relocate the main group. We were certain that the two parties would eventually reunite, but Dushishoze and Agahebuzo surprised us when they opted to remain a separate group. Agahebuzo’s presence as second silverback has been critical. He is often seen displaying with loud chest-beats in order to reassure everyone in the group that they are fine and well protected.
Agahebuzo's role as babysitter didn’t change when the group split, as his favorite infants, Kira and Inararibonye, also joined Dushishoze’s group. He spends a lot of time patiently entertaining them."
